Hi,

When connecting two 2950s should the connecting ports be in access or trunking mode, and why? Only using VLAN 1 on both switches.

Thanks

If you just have one VLAN, make it an access port.

Hi,

In your case it should be in access mode as you only have 1 VLAN across both switches.

If you had multiple VLANS on across both switches then you would need to configure a trunk link between both switches. In a nutshell, this means that any traffic from a specicic VLAN/switch that crosses the trunk link to the second switch is tagged with the VLANID, allowing the second switch to identify the correct VLAN these frames are from, and forward them to ports in the same VLAN.
