2950 - Mac Address Problem

I have a 24port 2950 Switch

every time I boot it I get

2950 Boot Loader (C2950-HBOOT-M) Version 12.1(11r)EA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Compiled Mon 22-Jul-02 17:18 by antonino

WS-C2950-24 starting...

Invalid parameter block -- no mac address available.

Xmodem file system is available.

This extract is from the boot process, prior to the flash: file system initialising.

Once the switch has booted, and issue a show ver, the end says;

Invalid parameter block -- no serial number or mac address available.

Configuration register is 0xF

So far, to cure this I have tried:

Edit of the env_vars file

copy of env_vars from an identical 2950 with same ios

format of flash:

reload at that point so there is nothing, reload an IOS over xmodem (fun) and then start from scratch only to get the same error.

Any ideas on this ?

You have a hardware failure and the switch will need to be replaced. Open a service request with TAC if you have a service contract on this device.
