3745 config question

Hi, I am configuring a 3745 with two 1GB uplinks and a 36 port switch module. My question concerns how the switch module conects to the rest of the router interfaces. Each uplink will go to a different floor and will be on its own subnets, 10.10.1.1 for the first gig link and 10.10.2.1 for the second. The switch module will connect servers that are in the 10.10.1.0 subnet. To configure the switch module do I just assign the switch module ports to a vlan and then assign an interface, say 10.10.1.2 to that vlan? Is there any thing else that I would ne to configure? I appreciate any help or suggestions in this matter

I am assuming that you a separate switch. (What Kind?) Basically you don't have to do anything else just connect the switch to the router and connect your servers to the switch. If you want to access the switch over the netwrok then you need to put an IP address on the switch.

Now because you 2 subnets, if you need for both subnets to communicate then you will need to do some routing or you can do vlans.

Hope this helps.

I wish I had an external switch, then it would be easy. But no I have a 36 port switch module that goes in the 3745 router, hence my confusion.

I would just treat it like any other L2/L3 switch. If you have created vlans in your router then you are right you just need to add that switchport to that vlan no need for an IP. This is just my guess as I have not worked on 3745 routers.

Looks like per documentation you don't have the option to create a vlans.

What documentation are you refering to. I have been trying to look this up unsuccessfully. BTW thanks for the responses.
