Hello,
We have a new 3745 Router with E1 interface . The IOS ver is (C3745-IPBASE-M), Version 12.3(5b) and it has a E1 interface. When I issue a "sh ver" command , it displays as "30 terminal line(s)
1 Channelized (E1 or T1)/PRI port(s) ". When I try to configure E1 interface using controller command , it does not accept the command . What could be the problem?. Does my Router require IOS upgrade , if so , what ver?.
Thanks
Raju

Hello,
can you post the output of the 'show version' command ? What is the part number of the E1 module that you have installed ?
Regards,
GP

Try adding the following global command: -
card type e1 (module mumber) Ie "card type e1 1" if the module is in slot 1

No..IOS is fine..I think you have NM-1CTE1-PRI card in 3745. That card can work as T1 or E1 card.
After you insert the NM-xCE1T1-PRI feature network module into the router chassis, you must use the card type command in the command-line interface (CLI) to inform IOS to function NM-xCE1T1-PRI as T1 or E1. The controller will not be configured until you use the card type command. Here is the link which talks more in this issue.
Following poits to consider.
When the command is used for the first time, the configuration takes effect immediately.
A subsequent change in the card type will not take effect unless you enter the reload command or reboot the router.

Thanks to all. After issuing "card type E1 1 " followed by reload , I can configure the E1 interface using controller command.
Thanks.
