6500 login

We have a 6500 that is requiring a carriage return before receiving the login prompt. And then two login prompts actually appear. This seems to be the same whether or not TACACS is enabled.

What is causing this?

What software are you running? Can you paste output of sh ver?

Via telnet, console, or AUX ports? Do you get the same results whether its telnet or console? What emulator are you using? Any config commands under vty 0 4, or con 0?

We are running CatOS for the switch. We are not using the MFSC.

This is happening when trying to telnet to the device. The device is remote, so I have not been able to try a direct console connection. I have used different terminal emulators with no difference. I have also taken TACACS off, but that didn't change it. It then just gave the password prompt twice after a carriage return.

It is also causing Ciscoworks to report an Attribute error because it is not receiving the expected prompt.

Did you configure

set banner telnet {enable | disable}

or can you set any motd and check again?

Martin

There is no banner telnet option, but I have cleared the motd banner but it didn't change the need for two carriage returns.
