We are going to be required to use IBM HACMP (high availability) on some of our AIX systems. The configuration uses a static ip and mac address that moves to a different server (or even a different nic) if the active nic/switch port goes down. The standby nic is required to be in a different subnet than the active port.
VMPS looks like the solution, but we only have one switch behind the firewall. Does anyone have experience with this scenario?
Thanks in advance!

I am not fimilar with IBM HACMP, Still I don't understand the same IP address and MAC address can work across differnet subnets. Dynamic Vlan is supported in supported in cat 6K. The details of configuring the same is given in the below document .

Since my initial post, the IBM sw architect is telling me to put all server active and standby ports in the same vlan, but to just have the standby ports configured for a different subnet. I have not tested this out yet. These standby ports must be able to talk to each other but do not need to talk to the outside so it would be just like using the switch as a hub for that secondary ip subnet. It sounds like it could work, but I will still be testing in within the next week so so.
Thank you for your input and for the link you provided.

I have configured a network for HACMP, all of the involved network ports need to be in the same layer 2
vlan. I think the trigger events are the hard part.
If your configuration gets complicated, it might help to do a simple state table. Good luck.
