Hello,
maybe somebody can help me. I have a c7206vxr router and it crashed with the
attached dump. Can anybody tell me where
the problem is?
(the mainboard is an NPE-300 with 3 dimm
modules one 32 MB and two 128 MB) The
bandwidth points are ok.
Thanks in advance,
Andras

Hi Andras,
It will not beso easy to find out what happened here due it seems to be there is no space in the bootflash to download the crashinfo file.
Check this message:
=== Flushing messages (09:18:31 MET-DST Fri Jun 16 2006) ===
Free space check for bootflash:crashinfo_20060616-071831 failed (1244/21518)
Getting the crashinfo file is key to determine the root cauuse of the problem.
I will decode the values of the "PC" at the moment of the crash, but that might not help. I'll see what I can get and let you know.
Do you happen to have a show log of the box at the moment of the crash ?

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for your reply. I found an information
regarding this problem on the cisco site. Here is
the link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps341/products_tech_note09186a00800942e0.shtml
So I think my problem could be an sdram problem.
Is it possible to find out which one is the faulty
ram ?
Unfortunately I don't have any sh log results...
The router totally chrashed and rebooted.

Hi Andras,
Thanks for your answer.
It's really a pitty we do not have the crashinfo files.
Haing said, that make sure, you release some space in the bootflash. you will need to delete those files and then squeeze the bootflash.
Now, if you have the bootflash full, then it means you have serveral crashinfo files already. Can you check those files. Maybe if they are recent files could be related to the problem you are seeing.
CAn you send me one or two crashinfo files if there are some ?

Hi Adrian,
I am unable to produce crashinfo. I made free space
on bootflash but I can't see any recent crashinfo
files but I keep getting these errors at boottime
(please check the attached text file).
I can test the memories and the mainboard in an
another 7206vxr chassis. So I can make a reboot
anytime. Back to crashinfo I try to change the
location of crashinfo files with the exception global
configuration command but I had the same result
(no crashinfo files).

Hi Andras,
Due the lask of the crashinfo file it will be hard to say what happened. However, based on the type of errors seen, everthing seems to indicate a problem with the SDRAM. Then, This is what I would do:
1) Re-seat (just in case) the SDRAM of the NPE.
2) If the problem happens again (in a shor periord of time like 1 or two moth)and the error messages are the the same, then replace the SDRAM memory of the NPE.
3) If the problem does not go away, I would sugest to replace the NPE.
Maybe the answers I'm giving you are not the one you migth expext, but this type of issues are very difficult to troubleshoot.
Lastly, it is very likely this is NOT a Software issue.
One more thing, there is no need to redirect the default location of the crashinfo file. If you made space in the bootflast it will be fine.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards!
Adrian

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for your help. I share your opinion. We are
going to buy new SDRAM modules in the NPE.

It looks like the problem is with the IOS causing a mem corruption. Which IOS are you running right now? Here are the results from the output interpreter. Hope this helps.
ERROR MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS (if any)
%SYS-3-OVERRUN (x1): Block overrun at [hex] (redzone [hex])
Explanation: An internal software error has occurred.
Recommended Action: If this messages recurs, copy the error message exactly as
it appears on the console or in the system log, contact your Cisco technical support
representative, and provide the representative with the gathered information.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STACK DECODE NOTIFICATIONS (if any)
Note: Understanding the 'Fixed In Version' field - Sometimes the fixed-in version
specified may not be available for download from the IOS Upgrade Planner. This
is because, bug fixes are incorporated into software versions which have not been
regression tested. These builds are called interim images and will have a "."
in the build number found between the parenthesis, for example 12.3(8.1). The bug
fix will be in the next available image, and all later images. So if a bug is fixed
in 12.3(8.1), the bug fix is present in 12.3(9), 12.3(10), and so on.
REFERENCE: For more information on how IOS images are named, see Cisco IOS White
Paper.
The failure was caused by a software defect.
