Automating backup of running-config

Does anyone have any suggestions for backing up running-config on multiple devices? I would prefer not to use scripts as they are difficult to maintain in large organisations. I would prefer to use freeware software...

ciscoworks. Its not free.

I am aware of ciscoworks, but don't have the budget for it. As I said I'd prefer freeware...

This is not a freeware but its probably worth buying it.

We use freeware called Rancid. It is mainly used to login, pull down the config and then email you the differences if anybody changes the config. It allows you to know at all times who has made changes to your routers. We then modified it a little to take those config files that it downloads and moves them off to an archive directory therefore you will always have a backup of your configs even thru multiple changes. Look at http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid/ and see if this may help.

Jeff,

Pretty funny name for the software. Good one though!
