Best Practice for Use of VLAN 1

Hi

Could someone please explain to me or point me to a doc that explains what the best practices are for the use of vlan 1.

I am aware that it is recommended no to use VLAN 1 for user data. I am not entirely clear as to all the reasons for this or how VLAN 1 should be dealt with when trunking.

Any help would be appreciated as I can nont seem to find a coprehensive document explaining this.
