Hi there,
I'm using two cat4506s and one cat2950.
They are connected each other by gigabit link and one port on the 2950 is blocked.
As I know, the blocked port represents the LED as amber, but the port is still green.
So, I changed the blocked port to a port on cat4506.
The result is same.
How can I track this problem...

Hi,
isn't there a trunk on the line connecting that two switches (don't forget the default trunk configuration is desirable on 2950s)?
If yes, the LED remains green even if all VLANs are blocked by STP on the port.

Milan

Thanks for your reply.
There is not any trunk on the 2950, but on the 4500s.
Could you post the link or any documents about what you mentioned?

Not documented anywhere AFAIK.
But I've got several trunkk ports in my network with all VLANs blocked by PVSTP+ and the LEDs are green.

Hum... I tried IOS Upgrade and got the same result.
The green LED for STP blocked port is normal?
But I can find the blocked port should be amber in any guide documents for switchs.
Any idea for this situation?

If you think about it I don't think it should go amber . If you have trunked links with multiple vlans running across it , 1 vlan may be blocked on that port but it may not be blocking the port for the other vlans that run across it . It really depends on how you set up your network and where the root is etc ...

Thanks,
As I said, there is not multiple vlans.
I tell you the scenario again, there are three switchs linked to each other by just one interface.
And I tested changing root bridge, but I got the same result. Blocked port still represented green LED.

Are you absolutely sure there is no trunk running on the port? Remember the trunk autonegotiation... Even when only one VLAN is configured on the switch, the port can still be running in trunk mode...
What is the show int ... switchport output?
