I'm trying to use an AS2509-RJ access server router to console into other Cisco devices I have.
I did a "show line" after booting the device but did not see any async "TTY" lines with any baud rates excpet for the AUX port:
Router#sh line
Tty Typ Tx/Rx A Modem Roty AccO AccI Uses Noise Overruns Int
* 0 CTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
1 AUX 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
2 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
3 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
4 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
5 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
6 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -
The router is an AS2509-RJ with 8 async ports. Here is the "show ver" output:
Router#sh ver

1 Serial network interface(s)

In other outputs of "show ver" of AS2509-RJ units on eBay, it says "X terminal line(s)" under the list of interfaces, but it is clearly not on the router that I bought off of eBay. I also did the following:
configured ip address on ethernet0 interface
did a "no shut" on the interface
I then tried to telnet to the ip address on ports 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, but I got a "Connection refused by remote host." Am I doing something wrong here or is the unit broke?

It can be faulty indeed.

Ok. Is there a command in IOS or ROMMON mode to do a test on the router?

There are no tests. If I'm not wrong the asynch lines are on a daugtherboard, that can be broken.

Do you have the octal cables plugged in?

Having them or not does not make a difference in hardware detection and configuration.

This model only has RJ-45 connectors on the back of the unit and octal cables aren't used. I did think of this and plugged in known working RJ-45 rollover cables and tried issuing the command again, but I still had the issue.
