C6K Gigabit Ethernet Card w/o SFM2

Hi,

Can a Catalyst 6500 with Sup2 (MSFC2 & PFC2) using this Gigabit Ethernet Card (WS-X6816-GBIC) work without installing the SFM2 (WS-X6500-SFM2) ?

Can it work, however, cannot perform Distributed Switching only ? Pls advise ....

See the datasheet for gigabit module on catalyst 6K :

The module only support Switch fabric switching mode.

You can verify it with the software advisor, I suppose.

Hi,

The Datasheet mentioned about its capabilities to deliver switched fabric feature. However, if I don't install an SFM2, will the WS-X6816-GBIC work (even without the extra features) ?

p/s : I tried the configurator. Apparently, I cannot configure the WS-X6816-GBIC without adding the SFM2 in.

You must install a Switch Fabric Module along with the WS-X6816-GBIC in the Catalyst 6500 Series switch.
