Cat 1900 troubleshooting

In our network we have a large number of Catalyst 1900 running original version, currently we are changing their IP address for mgmt so we change the address by menu and them reset the switch so the change take effect. But some of them doesnt respond ping nor telnet, the ip address and default gateway assigned to the switch correspon to the vlan the are connected to, so we dont understand what the problem is. The switch keeps working OK learning mac-address and doing its job. Please, if someone knows a possible cause of this problem let me know.

Thanks,

asanes

I have had the same problem before, it seems that the 1900's dont always seem to accept there new addresses. A couple of attempts at setting the IP and rebooting usually sorts it.

If the switch is remote, and you have now lost connectivity. log on to a local device, and track down its mac address through the likes of cdp. You can then add a static arp entry on this advice for an ip address you want. this will should allow you to connect to the device again to reconfigure it/reload it. afterwards remove the static arp entry from the device use used as a stepping stone.

hope this helps
