I have had the same problem before, it seems that the 1900's dont always seem to accept there new addresses. A couple of attempts at setting the IP and rebooting usually sorts it.
If the switch is remote, and you have now lost connectivity. log on to a local device, and track down its mac address through the likes of cdp. You can then add a static arp entry on this advice for an ip address you want. this will should allow you to connect to the device again to reconfigure it/reload it. afterwards remove the static arp entry from the device use used as a stepping stone.
