I have a Catalyst 4003 restarting on its own every once in a while. According to logs, PS2 if failing. The problem is that PS2 is not even installed, physically. The software says PS2 is not installed but the logs say otherwise.
I can't find anything in the config or anything online to troubleshoot this.
I am new to Catalyst switches. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello,
I think this is a software bug and doesn´t indicate anything being wrong with your power supply, the software appears to count the PS numbers wrong.
You can turn logging of this message off with the global command:
logging console notifications
Which IOS or CatOS version are you running ?

Georg

I think you are correct; it seems like a software bug. I am one or two minor revs behind... This is what is on flash:
Cisco4003_ClosetB> (enable) dir
-#- -length- -----date/time------ name
1 2800036 Jun 08 1999 07:46:39 cat4000.4-5-1.bin
8734172 bytes available (2800164 bytes used)
I have not tried swapping the power supply slots. I doubt it would like being run from slot 2 with slot 1 empty.
I don't think turning off logging will help. The switch just restarts in the middle of the day. There are other switches in the same closet that do not restart. Same power, same ups, etc.
Thanks for the help.
