Cat 4507R Sup4 Redundancy problems

Hello,

I have 2 catalysts 4507R with sup4 (WS-4515) installed in redundancy mode.

I noticed that it is not always the same sup which is active each time I boot the catalysts.

Does anyone know the way the active is 'elected'?

Is there a way to force on sup to be choosen as the active?

Thanks!

When you power cycle the chassis, the active sup would normally be the sup in slot 1. Somethings I would look for

1)Are you booting from bootflash/flash card?

2)If you have more than one IOS image in the bootflash/flash card of active/standby Sup. Make sure the image you want to boot is the first image in both Sups

3)Boot variables/config register is properly set

Currently there is no command to make any one of the supervisor active. If I remember correctly, there is plan to make it happen.

If you end up with the sup you don't want active, immediatedly do a "reload" or redundancy force-switchover on the active.

I wouldn't be overly concern which sup is active, as long your redundancy works.
