Hi.
Yesterday I fixed a bgp issue on my two 6509 making one of the boxes the primary on traffic in/out.
Now I see that it has a cpuload of 80-90 (or more) % cpuload.
And I see that (sh proc cpu) that Earl NDE Task has the top usage of cpupower.
52 141695524 348121123 407 0.40% 0.79% 1.03% 0 Earl NDE Task
What is it?

Hi.
Yes. It is reporting data to an external server.
but I am amazed that it should take up so much cpu just reporting. I was asuming that it would be the link to the server that would be "congested".
I will lookup the EARL on the cco.. Lets see what it says..
which says:
What is the EARL?
The Encoded Address Recognition Logic (EARL) is a centralized processing engine for learning and forwarding packets based upon MAC address on the Catalyst 5000 Supervisor Engines. The EARL stores the VLAN, MAC address, and port relationships. These relationships are used to make switching decisions in hardware.
