Cat6509 Invalid card in Slot1

I am receiving the below message from a 6509 switch:

: slot_earl_icc_shim_addr: Slot 1 is neither SuperCard nor Supervisor - Invalid Slot.

There is a Supervisor 720 installed in slot 5.

slot1 is: 24 CEF720 24 port 1000mb SFP WS-X6724-SFP

Why is this happening, is there a command to resolve this issue.

What version of IOS do you have? I'm looking at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_bulletin0900aecd800f6e27.html, and it tells me:

Note: This module is supported only on the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 720 using Cisco Catalyst OS Version 8.1.2 or Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(17a)SX (available in the next few months) or subsequent software releases.

Hi,

check the release notes of IOS or CatOS which is running on the switch, whether it supports this module or not?

incompatible OS can be one of the reasons.

What IOS are you running? It appears you are running into a known issue which is fixed in 12.2(17b)SXA
