Cat6509 Power Redundancy Problem...

Here is my unbelievable history.

Device is Cat6509 with dual supervisor and dual power supply.

The IOS version is Version 12.1(19)E1.

1st, when I tried to pull out the power cable from the rack connected power supply

in bay 1, the active supervisor was turned over to standby supervisor.

(I didn't try to turn off the switch at the power supply)

2nd, I should pull the plug in another UPS. I expected that the active supervisor was

recovered. But anything was happened.

3rd, I pull the plug in the rack back. Anything was happened.

Let me explain this condition.

Two power supplies are operating and standby supervisor take over the active.

4th, I turned off the switch at the power supply in bay 2. Also anything was happened.

The last, I pull out the power cable from the rack connected power supply in bay 2.

Eventually, the Cat6509 reboot entierly, and the active supervisor was turned over.

I know some bugs are still in existence in this IOS version, but I don't believe the

bugs are the only reason for this problem.

Do a show module when you unplug one power supply. If it shows power-deny then your power supplies are too small to individually take care of the switch. You may not be set up to be redundant in this case, instead of say two 4000w powers supplies that are redundant you may be using 2 x 2000w power supplies that end up providing 4000w to the switch.

I am guessing, you should probably tell us more about your switch hardware and setup.

I don't think the power is not too small to care of the switch.
