I have a cisco 2975 switch and I am new to cisco. I have a console port and would like to to know how do I connect to this switch through the console I don't know the IP so I don't know how to get it. I would like help on how to configure this swtch

I am assuming its a CAT2970 series switch you have. Use the roll over cable(flat blue or black cable which comes with the switch) and connect the console port to the serial port of your PC using the DB-9 to RJ-45 adapter. Use hyperterminal application which comes with Windows with following settings

9600 baud rate

No parity

8 data bits

1 stop bit
