CiscoWorks LMS Platform

We are preparing to install CiscoWorks LMS and I need to clarify certain system requirements:

1. The spec sheet says Windows 2000 SP2 is required. Is Windows XP professional an option or has this not been tested and/or approved?

2. It specifies 1-GB RAM based on 500 devices. Our network won't be managing more than a dozen (critical) LAN devices. What would the minimum amount of RAM necessary?

3. It specifies dual processor for hosting multiple management solutions. Does this mean dual processors would be necessary to add WAN management for the 18 routers in our network, or would a 1.6Ghz P-4 do o.k.?

Have a look at : http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/wr2k/prodlit/ckspp_wp.htm which should answer most of your questions. In brief:

1) Only Win2K Professional/Server with SP2 is currently supported. WinXP is not supported/tested at all.

2) 512MB shouls be good, but 1GB would enhance the performance of the bundle.

3) Dual-processor is not mandatory but again increase the performance.

Thanks for the prompt reply. All my questions were answered by you and ... the white paper is good.

Follow-up questions:

1. Can LMS be used to manage switches on the other end of a WAN (FR) circuit?

2. Can an LMS management client at a remote site view and monitor information located on the LMS Server?

1. As long as LMS can access the devices via SNMP/CDP/ILMI on the other end, it should be able to manage them.

2. Not sure what you're trying to do here. Some more clarification would help.
