Ciscoworks VMS 2.0

Hi,

I am new to Ciscoworks and I have a basic question. Here is what I have installed.

CD one, 4th edition

RME 3.3

VPN monitor 1.1

Java 1.31 patch for CD one, 4th edition.

I am trying to monitor 2 2611 routers with 12.2(8) IOS IPSEC images with the VPN monitor. I have added the devices to a static view in RME and then added them to the VPN dashboard. The CPU and memory usage gauges both are monitored. All IPSEC and IKE data in the three tabs within the VPN Monitor Dashboard (System, Throughout, and Failures) all say N/S (Not supported). The polling is working correctly every 5 minutes and I believe my IOS releases are recent enough. Can someone shed some light on my situation?

Thanks,

RJ

Are you looking to find out why you're seeing the Not Supported as mentioned above? If so, then it simply means, that particular item form which N/S is listed in not available for that partiuclar device. Since VPN Monitor uses MIBs to collected the data, not all devices support all the MIBs across the board.

The docs say the IPSEC throughput are supported. Anyway, can you compile MIB's in Ciscoworks VMS?

The device need to first support the MIB before the application can poll any object from it. You can use http://www.cisco.com/go/mibs to find out whether your IOS supports this IPSec MIB or not. Secondly, there is no way in VMS 2.0 to load/compile any MIBs externally.

Thanks for your help on this issue. I have noticed the all the 12.2(x)T releases are the only images that contain the IPSEC MIBs. I also notice that they all require 64 MB of RAM. This is what I am wondering. The VMS docs say that release 12.2(4)T and higher is supported from monitoring 2600 IPSEC VPNs. I have release 12.2(7b).

12.2(4)T was released on 10/15/01

12.2(7b) was released on 3/10/02

My understanding is that T releases offer more features at an earlier date. So, if IPSEC MIB's were offered on 10/15/01 in 12.2(4)T, does anyone know when or if they are offered in a maintenance release?

Thanks,

RJ
