I understand that CiscoWorks2000 does not support non-cisco devices, never the less I would like to try and monitor such devices through CiscoWorks. Specifically I would like to monitor our snmp-enabled UPSs and I'm wondering if it's possible to configure something like DFM (or another part of the suite) to monitor them.
At the moment I have some limited success in that snmp-rw tests seem to work (but snmp-ro tests fail); DFM lists authentication errors periodically so I know that certain elements are registered. My UPS supports email notification but I would like some kind of monitoring to occur via Ciscoworks as well.
Has anyone else had experience monitoring non-cisco devices with CiscoWorks2000? If so what aspects of the suite did you have to modify? Was anything particularly tricky? Was it worth the time making the effort?

The non-cisco device will be treated by DFM as a generic snmp device and therefore most of the features in DFM may not work on it as the MIBs used by DFM may not be supported on these. More details in the FAQs: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/dfm/dfm_faq.htm

What if I gave DFM new MIBS to reference (our UPS came with some)? I notice the faq mentions that DFM is not a MIB browser so does that mean it cannot use new MIBS? If it can in fact use new MIBS where would they go?
