Hi,
There are different types of ATM applications. Such as LANE, Classic IP over ATM (RFC1577), RFC1483 (Multiprotocol over ATM) with PVC and SVC. It depends on what topology you have and what type of application is suitable for you network.

If the 3600 is directly connected to the Fore ATM card, you can only configure IP over ATM PVCs. See the following URLs for more information:

If there is an ATM switch in between, you can do whatever you want:
LANE, Classical IP, SVCs or PVCs. If the Fore ATM card is the only device which will "talk" to the 3600, do not trouble yourself and use PVCs.
If there are more devices that should be connecting to that 3600 via ATM, you can go for LANE. Have a look to the following URL for more informations:
