Well known Les/bus services non-cisco.

At our shop we are using Marconi System's ASX1000 which provides our LEC server and Les and Bus services. Recently we connect Cat5500 to our Sonet on a point to point link which terminate on an Cat8540. The cat 8540 has a connection to the Marconi ASX1000 atm backbone. The question I have is should I configure the cat5500 with the well known Marconi les/bus address.

also please note the 8540 does has this entry.

Question2,

How do we display the atm neighbor that is connected on the other end. for instance, I have two cat8540 connected to each over a sonet connection, when I issue a show atm pnni neighbor the display return the neighbors host name. But the same command on the cat8540 does not any information about the cat5500. What command is available to show me neighbor information about an atm device on the network.

thanks much for all you help.

hector .

Hector,

To have the 5500 participate in lane, using the WKA (well known address) you should not have to input this in the LANE module. Only the two signaling PVC's for ilmi and qsaal need to be made for address registration and call (SVC) setup. See "configuring Lec" on the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/atm/c8540/12_0/13_19/quick_cg/lane.htm#11992

To see the full address that the lane module has gotten from your 8540 or ASX1000 you can do a "show lane default". From the 8540 side you can do a "show ilmi-stat " for the interface that the 5500 is plugged into to see the registered prefix.

On a side note, the BUS forwarding performance on the ASX1000 is 400% or so lower than that of the 5500 LANE module. You might think about, if these services are staying around, moving the LES/BUS function off to the Catalyst. If you are running DLE (distributed LAne emulation) on the Fore's just beware that Cisco does not support that. It's Fore/Marconi proprietary.

Hope this helps,

Don

Don,

Thanks for all your help. I have on more question requarding the Catalyst platform on atm. When I connect the Cat5500 to a Cat 8540mls over a sonet connection, Do I need any special or any addition configuration statement for the connection to work.

below is the config statement I have on the cat 8540 port.

interface ATM12/0/14

description SONET Connection to 64CAT5500-MDF2

no ip address

no ip directed-broadcast

logging event subif-link-status

no atm auto-configuration

no atm ilmi-keepalive

atm nni

and here is how the port is configured on the cat5500,

!

interface ATM0

atm preferred phy B

atm pvc 1 0 5 qsaal

atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi

Am I missing something.

thanks

For the physical connectivity, you do not need to configure anything special. Though, in your config above, you should remove "atm nni" and reenable atm autoconfiguration.

After that, you can start configure PVCs or LANE.
