on my router have have done a translation for port 100 outside to 21 inside for my ftp, my question is how do people on the outside connect to this, as surely outside it will be looking for port 21 ?

Hi,
For this to work you need to do two things:
1) Tell people that your ftp server is listening on a non-standard port (100 in this case)
2) Use an FTP client which supports connecting on a non-standard port (some do, some don't)

also, if you're using a PIX, you should create a FIXUP for the port/protocol required. this will allow the firewall to listen to FTP on the specified port.

if this ftp publicly available and u cant tell everyone then i think u need to reverse your configuration means outside 21 to redirect 100 inside.
