CRC Align Errors - how to solve?

Hi there,

I have a problematic port where it could not get an IP intermittently. In other words, I got disconnected intermittently. I do not think DHCP as the problem as the other ports are working fine. When I did a "show port" through my 6509 switch (hybrid OS), it shows some Align-Err (4) FCS-Err (3) and Single-Col (1). I used my Fluke Network Analyzer and it shows CRC Align Errors too when plugged to the problematic port. How shall I solve this problem?

Thank you very much :)

Hi,

The number of frames with alignment errors (frames that do not end with an even number of octets and have a bad Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)) received on the port.

These usually indicate a physical problem (such as cabling, a bad port, or a bad NIC) but can also indicate a duplex mismatch. When the cable is first connected to the port, some of these errors may occur. Also, if there is a hub connected to the port, collisions between other devices on the hub may cause these errors.

Try to hardset the speed and duplex. Try changing the cable and also upgrdae the NIC drivers.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for your reply. I think I could rule out the cabling and NIC problem as I have used my Network Analyzer to check the cabling and have used different NIC but the problem still occurs. Besides hard setting the speed and duplex, is there any other way to troubleshoot this problem? I don't think the speed and duplex is the root cause, though as my other ports are functioning well with the duplex set to auto.

Thanks again :)

Please let me know the module that you are using. the model number.

Please paste the output of Show version.

hi,

You wrote " I don't think the speed and duplex is the root cause, though as my other ports are functioning well with the duplex set to auto "......

Well it doesnot matter if your other ports/PC are working fine on auto duplex. This could be a auto-negotiation problem between that particular port and that particular NIC. So you have to try hardcoding the speed and duplex. Also I have found out few refrences for you
