Delay for Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Interfaces.

I was wondering if Cisco has published any information on how much latency/delay (usec) there is with the following modules/cards for Cisco Catalyst 6509 Switches:

o 16-port Gigabit Module (WS-X6516-GBIC)

o 48-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet Module (WS-X6548-RJ-45)

I have seen some information other than Cisco which had <80 usec for Fast Ethernet, and <8 usec for Gigabit Ethernet.

Thanks,

These are the numbers I have seen.

Ethernet delay is generally:

10Mbs = 1000usec

100Mbs = 100usec

1000Mbs = 10usec

However it depends on the packet size:

.................................Frame Size (Bytes)

link -------------64--------------------512 -------------1500

10Mbs-------0.00005ms----------0.0004ms------0.0012ms (1.2 milliseconds)

100Mbs-----0.000005-------------0.00004ms----0.00012ms (120 microseconds)

1000Mbs---0.0000005------------0.000004ms--0.000012ms(12 microseconds)

Hope it helps.
