Don't suppose you want to go into a *tad* more detail, do you? Maybe tell us what device is it, if this is an error code on the console, if you have a TFTP server defined in your config at all, etc.

Pardon me, I am a mere novice. This is an error I receive periodically while working on a 2501. It seems that it is searching for an TFTP site to load an image from. I do have a TFTP server setup and working. It's ip is NOT 255.255.255.255 I see nothing in running-config that suggests that I have configured the router to periodically search TFTP sites, if this is even possible.

Dennis,

You provided all of the detail that is necessary. You probably have an older IOS or someone, at some point, enabled 'service config.' This causes the router to go out looking for a tftp server for config files, etc. The problem is, that no server was ever specified with the various 'boot' commands so it is defaulting to the broadcast address 255.255.255.255.

You probably aren't interested in using your TFTP server for loading images. Just issue 'no service config' from config mode. And enjoy the last laugh.

Regards,

Scott

Scott,

Thanks so much. You were absolutely correct. Problem solved.

Thank you so much! You saved my day.

It was a very old discussion, but was helpful in a current problem. Thanks for sharing your experience. This is another demonstration of the value of this community.
