I need to replace a Cabletron switch that has a gigabit interface (fibre) with a new switch (possibly from Cisco!). I also need to plug in about 60 100Mbit Ethernet hosts. Now I' ve got two Catalysts 1900 connected to the Cabletron that don't seem to get the job done. (To worsen the problem some of the Catalyst's ports have multiple hosts connected through hubs!)
Any Cisco product suggestions (price matters) ? Thank's

You might consider using the WS-C3550-12G. It has 10 slots for GBIC modules that can contain either fiber- or copper modules. It also has 2 fixed 10/100/1000 ports.
The 60 ports can be attached to several 2950 (WS-C2950G-24-E1) switches that are also interconnected with GBICs. This solution will be cheaper than a big fat 4000, 5500 or 65000 switch.
For the GBICs look at article nrs WS-X3500-XL and WS-G5486.

The Catalyst 2980G would work and give you some extra ports. It lists for $8,995 without GBICs.
