Can it be done, are they compatable (interchangeable)?

Well the simple answer is it depends. Basically yes you can interoperate the GBIC from a 2950 to 3550 to 2948G etc etc etc... A WS-G5484= is the SX multi-mode GBIC that can be used on almost all the switches. Of course that holds true for the WS-G5486= (LX/LH) and the WS-G5487= ZX connector. The newer switches like the 2750 use the GLC-T= which is the SFP form factor GBIC and will not work in the older model switch.

Just thought of an easy way you can check yourself. From the www.cisco.com site go to the ordering section and configure both switches and look at the options. If they are the same, then yes interoperable, if not then sorry...
