We are planning to add/upgrade one of the GBIC's modules in Cat6509 chassis and I am not sure what would be the best choice and how to select one. The goal is to increase number of GBIC ports using existing Supervisory Engine module. The current configuration we have is this:

WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE

WS-X6324-100FX-MM

WS-X6408-GBIC

WS-X6408A-GBIC

I would appreciate your advise.

WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE is a Sup engine which will come 2 GBIC ports

WS-X6324-100FX-MM is 100 Base -FX module which will have 24 fixed 100 Base-FX (MM) ports

WS-X6408A-GBIC will have 8 GBIC slots (ports )

Go for WS-X6408A-GBIC module . I really don't know what is the difference between WS-X6408-GBIC & WS-X6408A-GBIC

Thanks.

Hi JR,

What are you running on your sup CatOS or IOS ??? Which Version ??? What amount of Memory ??

These are the main points you should kept in mind before installing or considering a new module.

Following Gigabit ethernet modules are supported with the sup engine that you are running and also with Sup2.Please check the CatOS/IOS requirement fo these modules. Also please check the DRAM/Flash requirement in order for these modules to get recognised and work in your chassis.

WS-X6516-GBIC

WS-X6516-GE-TX

WS-X6416-GBIC

WS-X6416-GE-MT

WS-X6316-GE-TX

WS-X6408A-GBIC

WS-X6408-GBIC

Please check the release notes for 6.x series as I am not sure which CatOS u r running on your Sup.
