Gigabit Ethernet to the Desk??

Hi,

I'm currently working on a project for a new building going up at our college. I've been looking everywhere to find Gigabit Ethernet switches. Right now on campus we have 3com 24port 10/100 3300 series switches. I was looking for something similar but all I've come across are modular switches. Does Cisco make anything non-modular in a Gigabit Switch or should I move to modular switch? I was hopping to find a switch that has 24 or 48 10/100/1000 ports. Also what type of cabling should I use? I'm hopping to use CAT5.

The new building will be two floors and a total of 50,000Sqft. Initially there will be about 300 computers in the building.

Thanks for all the help,

With that density requirement you might look into the 4000 series or higher switches. The 4000 offers a 48 port 10/100/1000BaseTX module (WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 ) that might meet your requirements.

Here is some more information on them:

Here is one on the module support on the 4000 series as well:

Hope this helps you,
