Question
How many L1 OSI areas would you expect to support on the following platforms?
Within each L1 area the number of Network elements is expected to be around 10-15.
The Cisco docs say that you can configure a maximum of 29 level 1 areas.
2621
3640
3662

Hmmm.... I don't know why there would be a hard limit on the number of areas. I would say that the answer to your question is going to depend on a lot of other issues, like what else the box is doing. You're probably not going to get a hard number recommendation....

Hi Russ
I've seen in Cisco documentation, for example the Cisco 2621 supports 3 L1 OSI areas, the part I need to know is what number of network elements is this number based on. I've raised this with the TAC, but I don't seem to be getting the answers I'm looking for.
Does anyone have any practical experience with mutli-area OSI, if so could you provide input.
thanks
