How to determine problem is from network or servers ?

Hi,

Is there any tools that can determine whether slow user experience (eg. PCanyWhere) is due to network (LAN) or server performance issues?

Basically my intention is to zoom down the area where the cause is.

I'm assuming you have some kind of Switch. Things I would look out for

*port errors on client/Server switch ports

*Spanning tree loops

*Is the server and client in the same VLAN? If they are not check for any drops on router

*If you have a sniffer, capture a sniffer trace to see what's going on

Hi,

yes, it's cat6509 core and couple of cat3548 edges. Apparently, there's no switch port error (moreover, the slow performance is intermittent) ..It's on a single vlan.

How can i find the cause?

Robin

Try to monitor traffic from some particular interface with a tool like MRTG:

Andrea.

When the problem happens, check for any syslog messages on all the switches. Also a sniffer trace will help
