How to tag a port - Cisco Catalyst Express 500

Hi folks.

I've just packed up one (of two) Cisco Catalyst Express 500 switches.

I've configured the switch with two VLANs, including the preinstalled one.

So, I now got two VLANs in this switch, VID 1 and VID 500.

I've also configured port 24 to be a member in VID 500.

An optical fiber is connecting this switch with the rest of the LAN and this is connected to the first of the two fiber modules.

So, so far so good. The traffic in VID 1 is running just smooth and I got no problems. Now my question.

I would like to TAG the fiberport with 500 so the packages belonging to VID 500 is beeing correctly sorted in the switch at the other side of the opticat fiber. How can I do that?

Hello,

you have to configure the uplink port role as "Switch". This should take care about it. Have a look at

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6545/products_getting_started_guide09186a0080524310.html#wp1007105

on how to assign port roles.

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

Thanks for your help. Now I can use both VID 1 and VID 500 over the optical fiber.
