hsrp timers

I have 2 routers here, what are the recommended timers for hsrp, will you be able to notice when one of the routers falls over ?

Hi

I think the default timers are good enough. The default hellotime is 3 seconds and the default holdtime is 10 seconds. If you desire you may change the holdtime. The holdtime is the time before the router is declared to be down.

You need to enter the following commands to change the holdtime:

- enable

- configure terminal

- interface 'id'

- standby 'group no' timers 'hellotime' 'holdtime'

thanks for that, when I make a change to the router, Will I have to do the changes to both of them ?

The answer is yes, you would have to make changes on both the routers. You would want both of them to have the same standards while they are working together ;) Is'nt it???
