HSRP - Traffic always switch to backup?

Hi,

I have seen alarms within monitoring system that my primary circuit went down. During that time, no alarms on the back-up appears in monitoring system, however we did not have service in the office. We believe traffic did not switch to back up although this one was working.

When primary is down and backup is up; what are the reasons for traffic not have switched ? Something related to HSRP or any other?

Thanks a lot in advance for your response,

Have a nice day

TP

We'd need more information to discuss your problem accurately.

HSRP is a first hop redundancy protocol and generally applies to LAN-facing gateway redundancy. When you start talking about circuits that generally implies WAN connectivity.

While HSRP can track availability of WAN interfaces on a given router, WAN redundancy is generally achieved via use of dynamic routing protocols (or a backup static route tracking an IP SLA).
