Hi all,

I came across the above mention CAT 4003 module. I wanted to know if this module is a routing module. I tried searching cisco's web site but was unable to find any info on this module. Could someone please advice me? Thanks a lot.

Regards

Malcolm

Malcolm,

I use this configuration (4003 with X4232-GB-RJ)extensively in my network at the access layer. It is definitely layer-2 only. The card has 32 10/100 user ports, and two GBIC slots that you can use for your uplinks. Which is just as well, because the S1 card on the 4003 doesn't have any on-board uplink ports.

The card has 6 x 1Gbps backplane links to the Supervisor. Each group of 8 user ports has a 1Gbps link, plus one for each GBIC port. So no oversubscription.

Hope this helps.

Hi Malcolm,

This is L2 capable only module. There is another module which is coded WS-X4232-L3 (looks very similar) and that one is L3 capable (ie. "routing"). But the L3 module was discontinued for sale with the advent of L3 supervisors modules (Sup IV).

Best regards,

Antonin
