Input Errors

I am starting to notice input errors on 2 interfaces on one of my switches. They are Fiber SX Gigabitethernet interfaces, going to seperate switches.

Are these connections going bad?

I used those quick termintating tips when I ran the fiber a year ago. Maybe they are degrading?

From what I understand these connections dont have issues wuth duplex or speed mismatches, so it has to be a hard ware issue , correct?

Correct, they are always 1000 Gbps full-duplex.

What sort of switch is it? If it is CatOS based, you can get lots of useful information from "show counters b/p" or "show port counters b/p". Of course, if it is IOS-based, you get the same sort of information from "show int". That way, you can distinguish the various types of input error: CRC errors, framing, dribbles, runts etc.

If they are CRC errors, they are likely to be due to dirty connections. 1000BaseSX is normally pretty dependable. Personally, I get worried if the long-term error rate on a 1000BaseSX connection goes over about 10 frames per billion.

Just as a disclaimer, I have also seen errors due to a faulty GBIC, but I think you would be very unlucky to have two of those in the same chassis.
