is there any helpful tool to convert Show Version command reply to part numbers of the boxes and the modules are installed in ?
A task of upgrade often arise and for me it is difficult to say is there a free slot or not.

No..no way to do that..Some souters do show detailed hardware config using "sh diag" command..else sh ver or sh hardware or sh tech is required.
