our customers are complaining about web access latencies when they try to open up our web pages remotely. Our network consists of: Internet router (Cisco 3725)---sw 2950---PIX---sw2950---web servers.
We captured the traffics when the latency problem occured but do not know what to look for. Any help please ? we only use up to 30% of our Internet bandwidth. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
how are the users connected (e.g. dial-up, VPN, etc.)? Latency might be caused by an intermittent hop, I would ask the users to traceroute to your website and check for any delays. Another possibility would be slow DNS resolution. Are your users using an internal DNS server ? You could ask the users to try to connect to the website by IP address rather than DNS name, if that makes a difference, it would point to name resolution problems...

GP

thank you, Sir for your concern. This is a banking system so customers are remotely connecting to our network to do Homebanking services so the DNS is different; beside when this happens both remote and internal users got the same latency problem. Internet bandwidth is only used up to 30% total.

Hi,
Have you tried to run ping sweeps and traceroutes
to the web servers? If there is any kind of packet loss connections may be retransmitted and appear slow.
If you do see any packet loss you can try and narrow down the problem by testing between each link.
The link below is also a good troubleshooting resource.

Best of luck.
