I have a 4006 switch which has a L3 module. documentaions say that the 32-10/100 ports on that card are purely layer 2 ports, does this meen that I can't create vlans in these ports? if I a can, can I route traffic between them? Also if I add a 48port fast ethernet card will the L3 module be able to route between the vlans on those potrs?

thanks!

Yes, the 32 10/100 ports on the 4232-L3 module can be configured for VLANs. The 4232-L3 can be configured to route those VLANs, the 32 ports just cannot be a routed interface. The 32 10/100 ports only appear in the CLI of the switch.

Hi,

i got also 2 cat 4006 with l3 module, how cann i enable this module on the switch? i recieve also 2 Licence Key what is the importance of this key ?

thanks

You do not need to do anything special to enble the module. just install it. The license key is just that, a license. it's like like 3DES license key while you have to type in to enable the use of 3DES.

hello,

do you have any config example how to configure a cat 4006 to connect to the core Cat6509 ? i have on the core two cat 6509 red. and need to connect a new building with cat 4006 (L3 and supII)

thanx for any help

I'm not clear on your question. The interconnect between the 4006 and 6509 is not too different than teh two 6509 connect to each other. You setup the VLANs in layer2 the same way, the differences are the config in layer3 4006 request port-channel setup as VLAN, encap is the same dot1q if you are using the same on teh 6509. Many people use isl on 6509, so you need to check
