I have 50 routers, I'm looking for a utility that would do automated backups on the config. file once a week.

I also have this problem with 50 routers and aproximately 150 switches. The only solutions I have found so far is scripting in TeraTerm pro or a software package from Infosim (www.infosim.com). I am horrible at scripting, and I can't get in touch with anyone at infosim?

Anyone have a solution to this? We can't be the only people in the world looking to do this?!

You can use RME that comes with CW2000 for this OR write your own script to get the configs via SNMP. There are a few tech tips on how to use SNMP for this at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/index.html

I've come across a good tool from a company in the UK called Kenson Network Engineering. The tool is called "Config Tracker" and you can download an evaluation version from their website....

Hope this helps.

We use Kiwi CatTools (freeware!) to do what you're asking. It works with routers, switches, PIX firewalls, etc. Check http://www.kiwisyslog.com/ for details. Awesome tool.

I found a nice shareware utility called WrNet

Use this utility to save your router's running-config to a TFTP server. If you automate this with the Windows NT/2000 scheduler, you can get regular backups of your router configuration.

Kiwi tools is actually not a bad product but, from what I remember, is not very secure as it stores passwords in a standard file system with no encryption.

If you implement CiscoWorks2K and also ACS, you will not only have configuration management but also user change management. How this works is that, once a user log's into your router (AAA/TACACS) and makes a change it is then updated on the CWorks2K box and logged with the USERID that changed it.

Hope this helps, ask an SE they can go into detail.
