Loopback IP address...

"Every Windows based PC uses the 127.x.x.x as the local loopback IP address" What about router and switch? I have tried pinging 127.0.0.1 and 127.x.x.x, on C3550 router with two enabled interfaces, there is no reply back. Why there is no loopback enabled by default? Is loopback interface mean 127.x.x.x or only 127.0.0.1 on Cisco router and switch? Or I need to manually configure it?

In a router/switch, the loopback interface is manually created and the network/host can be any IP address, not strictly 127.x.x.x

The auto-creation of loopback addresses in a router can create routing problems since these networks may advertise these networks/hosts if not properly configured.
