If I've set up the mgnt vlan on my cisco switches to be other than vlan 1 do I need to .....
a.) Shut down vlan 1 ???
b.) use the key work "management" when declaring the mgnt. IP address on 4006's or 3550's

a) If your using IOS, on non layer 3 switches,
there can be only one active VLAN interface. The other will shutdown automaticly.
b) if the 4006 or 3550 are running CatOS the use command:
set interface sc0
to configure the management interface.
If the 4006 or 3550 are running IOS, see a.

In the newer boxes and IOS, the "management" command has been erased.
Then you have to do a "shutdown" on the VLAN 1 interface and configure the the new VLAN interface you want with a address.
