Monitor (SPAN) on Cat6000 IOS using SNMP ?

I'm trying to use a SNMP tool to set SPAN functions.

I found OIDs 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.* in MIB documentation to enable SPAN and specify source/destination port, but none of them is working on a catalyst 6006 IOS ver 12.1(11b)E.

Other SNMP commands work OK so it's not an SNMP issue.

Is there another OID to use on the catalyst 6000 ?

Am'I missing something ?

Thanks for any help.

Olivier.

Do you have a NAM module in your switch which you'll be using as a SPAN destination?. If so, then you can either span from the switch CLI on a per interface basis using 'rmon collection stats owner monitor' or use any RMON application like RTM or NAM's own Traffic Analyzer to do the same.

I have no NAM module.

I know I can use the CLI but I want to use Network Instruments Observer software. In order to analyze traffic on a port or to display switch matrix infos, it uses SPAN to monitor a range of ports you specify (by switching SPAN from one port to the next, etc...). It does this using a script that uses SNMP.

The CLI command is available and the OID is defined in CISCO MIB (Stack) (accorfing CISCO mib files) but gives an error when trying to set source or destination module/port info.

What specific object are you trying to set and what error it gives?

Hello,

I'm trying to set

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.1.0=3 (source module)

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.2.0=14 (source port)

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.3.0=4 (dest module)

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.4.0=18 (dest port)

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.8.6.0=1 (enable monitor)

and the error is : no such name

I think the 6006 mibs do not contain this ??

Is there other OIDs to manage SPAN (monitor) ?

Thanks,

Olivier.

Do you have 'sh ver' available from this switch?

Here it is:

c6sup12-pk2o3sv-mz.121-11b.E does not have the CISCO-STACK-MIB present in the image, hence you're getting 'no such name' error messages. You can verify this by using either http://www.cisco.com/go/mibs (CCO MIB Locator Tool) OR mii@external.cisco.com automated alias.

What image do I need to load to get this ?

Is there one ?

Thanks again for your help.
