MPLS deployment

I tried to use MPLS in my Cable lab with cisco UBr and Nortel and 3com modems. It does not work. But it will work with Cisco cable modem Ubr91x. My question is do you need cisco IOS on the modems for you to get the MPLS working with the cable modems. If this is the case it is not in line with the cable lab certification.

Could you also tell me if there are any new development's on MPLS>

There are no requirements to have a Cisco cable modem when using MPLS on the uBR. It works with ANY docsys certified cable modem.
