If the MSFC bootflash has the wrong image, is XMODEM the only way to load a new image on the MSFC ?

Yes..You can XMODEM a bootldr image which is a smaller image and hence a lot quicker. Once the MSFC boots off bootldr, use TFTP to get the correct images onto the bootflash

Is there a way to sync the images on both the bootflashes of MSFC2 on primary and secondary supervisors, using any command. I know that the Cat OS image does synchronise automatically.

No..The MSFC IOS images does not syncronize.

Why is it that I cannot access the console port of the secondary supervisor? is it because its in standby mode?>

Yep..Console port of standby Supervisor is disabled. If you want to access the MSFC in slot 16, issue a "switch console 16" and then move your console cable to Supervisor in slot 2
