Hello!!!

Can anybody tell me what the following output means??

Serial0/1:1 is reset, line protocol is down

-I do understand that "Serial0/1" means slot0/port1, but what does :1 mean? as well as the rest of the output.

Sounds like a channelized t-1 or and isdn pri.

the :1 is the first channel.

I agree with millerv, depending on your region you either have a E1 or T1 interface in your router.

E1's and T1's can come in channelised or unchannelised, channelised E1 has 31 channels of 64k and T1 have 23 channels of 64k.

If it's ISDN E1/PRI in your router configuration you'll probably see a Serial0/1:15 (E1/pri) or Serial0/1:23 (T1/pri).

But because you see Serial0/1:1 you’ve most likely gone a good home grown E1 or T1 service connected to the router interface 0/1 and since you have a Serial0/1:1 you most likely have a “channel-group timeslots 1-31”… meaning that the router is set-up to have a leased-line or something (another E1 or T1) connect on the first channel of 64k though to the 31st channel of 64k, with a useable 1984k. you use the :1 sub-interface to configure the line.

oops it's "channel-group 1 timeslots 1-31"

or "channel-group 1 timeslots 1-4" being 4 x 64k starting at channel 1 and ending on channel 4
