Need to upgrade IOS image, but not enough space on Flash:

I have a few routers and switches to upgrade image to a newer release, but there's not enough space on the Flash: to store both the current and the newer images. Can I do the following:

1. Copy the current image and config to a backup place;

2. Delete the image from Flash and squeeze;

3. Copy the new image to the Flash;

4. During maintenance window, reboot the devices.

My concern is after the current image is deleted but prior to the new image reload, there isn't a correct image file in Flash to match the boot command.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi Gary,

Your plan is just fine. The only other thing I would recommend is to go ahead and change the boot variable, so that in the event of a premature reboot (crash, power hit, etc.) the device will come up with the new image.

HTH,

Bobby
